Supercomputing forum

Lobachevsky National Research State University of Nizhni Novgorod is the regular organizer of the Russian national forum “Supercomputing Technologies in Education, Science and Industry”. Scientific conference “High-Performance Parallel Computing on Cluster Systems”,  youth school and the contest of innovative projects in the sphere of supercomputing technologies are held as a part of the forum. The leading Russian specialists in the sphere of supercomputing technologies take part in the forum: every year there are more than 150 from more than 10 Russian cities and neighbouring countries. For example, in 2012 the forum was visited by two academics of the Russian Academy od Sciences, tree corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 19 Doctors of Sciences, 42 Candidates of Sciences, representatives of 22 Russian cities (Arkhangelsk, Belgorod, Vladivostok, Vladimir, Volgograd, Dubna, Ekaterinburg, Ivanovo, Izhevsk, Irkutsk, Kazan, Kemerovo, Kirov, Kursk, Minsk, Moscow, Nizhni Novgorod, Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Orenburg, Penza, Perm, Petrozavodsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Saransk, Sarov, Stavropol, Tambov, Tver, Tomsk, Tula, Ufa, Chelyabinsk); all in all there were more than 170 people.

Here is a brief description of the forum activities.

All-Russian Conference is held annually starting from 2001. It is dedicated to the acute problems of implementation of parallel computer systems as strategic direction of computer engineering development. This direction is one of the principle ones in science and technology development and it also belongs to the list of Russian Federation critical technologies. The founder of the conference is the Supercomputing Consortium of Russian Universities.

The following topics are discussed at the conference:

  • High-performance computer systems and methods of computation control
  • Supercomputing technologies in medicine and biology
  • Supercomputing technologies in high-technology application tasks
  • Models and techniques of high-performance computing
  • Cloud computing techniques and methods of high-performance computing
  • High-performance computing and graphics processors usage
  • High-performance computing and applications
  • Mobile programming

Collected works are published, as a result of the conference. See archives of the recent years (in Russian).

The youth school is dedicated to learning of the modern technologies of high-performance computing. It also enables the practical implementation of these technologies to solve acute problems of science and technology. The curriculum of the School includes intensive classes and extended laboratory course, survey reports of the leading scientists and specialists, practical tasks of different difficulty levels. Studying at Youth School gives a unique opportunity of further training in the sphere of supercomputing technologies and high-performance computing.

The aim of the contest of the innovative projects in the sphere of supercomputing technologies is the promotion of parallel programming, attracting active young specialists to solve acute science and technology problems with the help of supercomputing technologies. Under-graduate students, post-graduate students and young specialists present their scientific projects at different stages of progress (starting from the idea of a project) at the contest.
